As part of my research I am reading a list of books & essays from leading authors, psychologists & educationalists on the subjects of childhood, education to be able to approach my subject from a more informed, and academic stand point. In my feedback from module one it was noted that there was definitely a strong feeling of empirical research , and that I would benefit from backing this up with reading more on the subjects of my research project. I have therefore been reading as much as possible on the subjects of childhood, and educational theory by the likes of John holt, John dewey , Sandra Dodd, and Guy Claxton to name a few.
I am currently reading the book Kith by Jay Griffiths. A book born from Jay’s travelling the world to write her book ‘Wild’ and seeing first hand how different societies approach childhood differently, and how the children experience childhood differently in different cultures. The main question being “Why are so many Euro-American children unhappy ? “
