Easter holidays – Statement of Intent 06.04.20
is a deeply personal project focusing on the alternative education of my children within their shared pedagogical space.
Exploring a small but intense window of time in the lives of our home educating family, & the dynamics created by the interlocking and philosophically varied education of both my children & myself. My two younger children engaging in a self directed learning experience, whilst my older sons focus on the structured, curriculum based learning of self educating through GCSE’s and A-levels, whilst I complete my MA.
In the middle of my project Covid-19 swept across the globe, altering the way education looks for many, & cancelling exam season in the U.K. Without the endorsement of tutors, my sons, along with many home educators, were left with the possibility of not being awarded exam grades.
In a time when much of the country has had home-schooling thrust upon them, the divide between the home-educated, and the schooled could not be wider. During a time when families are supported by schools, the government, organisations and a myriad of good intentioned people, many in the home educating community are faced with the potential of being failed by a system that has repeatedly failed them in the past.
My final WIP presenting our own unique view of these converging issues.
