After photographing Adele and Laurence and their girls in week 8 at their home in Cornwall, we decided that I would join them on their farm that the recently set up on the outskirts of Falmouth http://www.soulfarm.co.uk , “A 1.5 acre no dig market farm growing seasonal vegetables in Falmouth, Cornwall” Kerr-Jarret, Laurence & Adele. About page. Soul farm. http://www.soulfarm.co.uk/about-2/ ( accessed 04.12.19)
I went along for a few hours, with zero expectation of what I would shoot, just that I would see if I could capture a little bit of what was going on there, what they were doing as a local family , and how it integrated into their home education as a whole. This really is such an exciting project, and one that ethically, and morally I am totally behind. It is a family creating big change in a small way , for the way we live, and shop, and eat . I was really happy that we got to capture some of this story now whilst it is in it’s infancy , and am hoping to go back in the future to recapture their progression of their story and how it has impacted and influenced the girls learning as the farm grows.

MY FAVOURITE SHOTS FROM THE FARM …
I REALLY LIKED THIS SET UP BUT FOUND GETTING THE ACTUAL SHOT I WANTED QUITE HARD. I WANTED TO GET CLOSER TO THE WALL AND HAVE A REALLY SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD, BUT OBVIOUSLY THERE WERE PLANTS GROWING SO IT WASN’T POSSIBLE. I ALSO FOUND THE EXPOSING WITH THE OUTSIDE QUITE HARD THAT DAY. I DO STILL LIKE THE SHOT THOUGH AND LIKE THE WAY THE CHILDREN ARE SO ENGAGED. I ALSO REALLY LIKE THE WAY THE ONE LITTLE GIRL IS COLOURING ON THE FLOOR, IT’S ALL VERY NATURAL AND UNSTAGED.
ABOVE : I LOVE THE VIEW OF LOOKING THROUGH A “WINDOW” IN THIS SHOT, BUT THE EXPOSURE AND FOCUS IS SLIGHTLY OFF. ALSO I SHOULD OF MOVED THE CHAIR REALLY BUT I WAS TRYING TO SHOOT COMPLETELY REPOTAGE.
ABOVE : I LOVE THIS SHOT. IT’S PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE OF THE WHOLE SHOOT. THE ANGLE IS HOW WE VIEW A LOT OF THINGS AS PARENTS. IT COULD ALSO SYMBOLISE LOOKING THROUGH THE CHILDRENS EYES. ESPECIALLY AS WE ARE LOOKING AT HER DRAWING WHICH IS LIKE VIEWING A CHILDS WORLD IN ITSELF. I ALSO LOVE THE CONTRAST BETWEEN THE WOODCHIP ON THE GROUND AND THE COLOURS OF THE PENS AND CLOTHES.
ABOVE : AGAIN I REALLY LIKE THIS SHOT FOR THE ANGLE, AND THE COLOURS AND CONTRAST, OF AN ACTIVITY THAT IS USUALLY CONFINED TO INSIDE, BEING EXPLORED OUTSIDE.
ABOVE : I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THESE STRINGS SUPPORT, I REALLY SHOULD ASK LAURENCE , BUT I LOVED THE CONTRAST OF COLOURS BETWEEN THE STRING AND THE WALL, AND THE SYMBOLISM OF HOW AS PARENTS WE KEEP EVERYTHING SECURE, EVEN IF SOMETIMES IN A ‘BOTCHED’ KIND OF WAY.
ABOVE : AGAIN SYMBOLISM OF THE BALANCING ACT OF KEEPING EVERYTHING PERFCT, THE TEMP AND HUMIDITY, THE FREEDOM, THE EDUCATION, THE WORK, THE FUN.
ABOVE : I LOVED THE INTERACTION BETWEEN ADELE AND LAURENCE IN THE TWO SHOTS ABOVE. THEY WERE SHOOTING A VIDEO FOR CROWDFUNDER THAT DAY, AND IT WAS GREAT GETTING TO SEE THEM DO THAT BEHIND THE SCENES, WHILST ALSO LOOKING AFTER THEIR GIRLS, INTERACTING WITH THEM, AND THE GIRLS EDUCATION WHILST I WAS THERE. I LIKED THE ‘REALNESS’ OF WE HAVE TO WORK, WE HAVE TO GET MONEY, WE AS PARENTS, STILL JUGGLING ALL THESE BALLS, AS THE EDUCATION IS HAPPENING.
ABOVE : I AM STARTING TO THINK I AM A LITTLE ADDICTED TO THIS VIEWPOINT … BUT AGAIN I LOVE IT ! COLOURS, COMPOSITION AND CONTRAST. AND THE VIEWPOINT OF THE PARENT OR CHILD.
ABOVE AND BELOW : I LOVED THE INTERACTION THE YOUNGEST IS SHOWING TO THE OLDER CHILD IN THESE TWO SHOTS.
ABOVE : I DID THIS AS THE ‘PARENTS’ SHOT FOR THE PROJECT THAT I WAS TRYING TO TAKE OF EACH FAMILY.
ABOVE : THIS WAS A SWEET ‘AFTERTHOUGHT’ I HAD FINISHED SHOOTING AND THE DAD NOTICED SOMETHING HAD STARTED GROWING THAT THE GIRLS HAD PLANTED, AND THEY WERE TOTALLY ENTHRALLED.
ABOVE : AT THEIR PHOTOSHOOT AT HOME I CAPTURED A SHOT OF ADELE ON HER OWN, AND SO REALLY WANTED TO TRY AND CAPTURE ONE OF LAURENCE ON HIS OWN AT THE FARM WHERE HE HAS BEEN GROWING EVERYTHING AND TEACHING THE GIRLS ABOUT THE PROCESS. ADELE IS A WRITER SO WORKS A LOT AT HOME, IT MADE SENSE TO CAPTURE THEM BOTH IN THEIR OWN DOMAINS AS IT WERE, AND HOW THEIR ROLLS IN THE GIRLS EDUCATION FLOWS SO WELL INTO EACH OTHER.
