Week 2 Parent Interview 09.06.2020
On Tuesday this week I had my first zoom interview with a parent who is either considering continuing home education after lockdown, or has already made the decision this is definitely how they will be educating their children moving forward. I have set a group of questions for these parents to be able to understand better what has been having with their families educational journeys since lockdown began. The below are the responses to those questions
NAME – Katie
CHILDREN / AGES – 3 children 6,4, and 2 years old.
WHICH IF ANY OF THE CHILDREN WERE IN SCHOOL? – 6 year old was in year 1 and the 4 year old was due to start reception in September.
DID YOU HAVE ANY PREVIOUS PLANS TO HOME EDUCATE ? - Always planned on home educating, but when the children were older.
WHAT KIND OF THINGS HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WITH THE KIDS DURING LOCKDOWN? - building lego , lots of outdoors in the garden, bug houses, weather station, cuddly toys, paddling pool, Cirque de soliel
WHY HAVE YOU MADE THE DECISION TO CONTINUE TO HOME EDUCATE NOW? - A combination , Zach is more settled at bedtime, disagree’s with bringing reception aged children back into school. Was going to do it anyway when they were older, so have just bought it forward
DO YOU SEE YOUR HOME EDUCATION CHANGING AFTER LOCKDOWN IS OVER? - going out more, less time in the house, small garden so need more space, get further afield.
WHAT HAVE BEEN THE POSITIVES OF HOME-SCHOOLING DURING LOCKDOWN? – family harmony , bedtime routine, connection.
DO YOU HAVE ANY WORRIES ABOUT HOME EDUCATING IN THE FUTURE ? – 2 year old not giving the older ones time to do what they wanted as he wants to be with them in their stuff all the time. Going each of them the attention 1 on 1 that they deserve .
