WE HAD A HUGE IMPORTANT MILESTONE IN OUR HOUSE THIS WEEK ! THE YOUNGEST FINISHED READING THE FIRST HARRY POTTER ALL ON HIS OWN !!!! THIS IS GINORMOUS ! HUMONGOUS ! OUTSTANDING ! A MASSIVE CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION …. SO I  TOOK SOME SOME SUPER SERIOUS ATMOSPHERIC PHOTOGRAPHS WHILST HE READ SOME OF THE LAST PAGE, THEN PUT MY CAMERA DOWN, AND LISTENED , AND CRIED WITH PRIDE. THEN I SQUEALED, AND LAUGHED, AND HUGGED HIM AN HUGGED HIM SOME MORE, AND TOLD HIM HOW UNIMAGINABLY PROUD I AM OF WHAT HE HAS ACHEIVED .

OSKA WAS NEVER ‘TAUGHT’ TO READ. NOT IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE. HE LEARNT THROUGH LISTENING TO HIS NIGHT TIME STORIES, AND LOVING OLIVER JEFFERS AND JULIA DONALDSON IMMEASURABLE AMOUNTS .

HE WASN’T MADE TO CHOOSE FROM PRE-SELECTED BOOKS, HE DIDN’T CRY OVER READING RECORDS, OR WORRY OVER READING CHAPTERS OF ENID BLYTON, AND NOT WHOLE LITTLE BIFF CHIP AND  KIPPER BOOKS , HE DIDN’T HAVE SOMEONE TELLING HIM HE HAD DONE ENOUGH, OR NOT ENOUGH, OR TOO MUCH, OR ON THE WRONG DAY, OR THE WRONG LEVEL. DIDN’T HAVE TO REPEAT SOUNDS EVERY MORNING IN A ROBOTIC AND ODDLY UNNATURAL WAY.

HE JUST LISTENED, ABSORBED, CUDDLED AND DRANK HOT CHOCOLATE WHILST DUNKING COOKIES AND ONE DAY HE COULD READ PICTURE BOOKS, THEN HE LISTENED, LISTENED, ABSORBED, AND LISTENED SOME MORE, THEN ONE DAY HE COULD READ BASIC CHAPTER BOOKS, THEN HE READ , LISTENED, READ, LISTENED, AND READ SOME MORE, AND THEN ONE DAY HE “WAS GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF FUN WITH DUDLEY THIS SUMMER…” (ROWLING: 1997 )
